On May 5, 2026, Egyptian Minister Aska presided over a highly anticipated meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Abbasiya, Cairo. Across the long table, the team led by the regional director of Sany Group presented a detailed plan covering the installation of 2000 megawatts of renewable energy and localized manufacturing of wind power equipment. The two sides had in-depth discussions on the technology transfer path.

Speed up of 2000 MW wind and solar projects

Both sides focused on reviewing the latest progress of implementing a renewable energy project with a total installed capacity of 2000 megawatts in Egypt. This project will develop wind and photovoltaic resources on a large scale, providing stable green electricity for Egypt's rapidly growing economy. The meeting explicitly requires that the wind power components used in the next phase of the project must be produced locally in Egypt, upgrading the simple equipment supply to local manufacturing, and building a complete Egyptian owned new energy equipment industry chain.

Wind power plant landing plan finalized

The two sides discussed in detail the specific plan for building a wind power plant in Egypt, with the core being to deeply link technology upgrades with localization mechanisms to ensure that Chinese enterprises' advanced technologies in the field of wind power equipment can take root in Egypt. After the meeting, the Sany team also went to the Egyptian Power Transmission Company to hold a technical meeting on the production of electrical and mechanical equipment in Egypt, further refining the specific aspects of local manufacturing. Resolving funding bottlenecks through local currency settlement

At the financial and policy level, both parties discussed the relevant agreement format for settlement in Egyptian pounds for local currency. This arrangement will help alleviate the pressure on Egypt's foreign exchange reserves and reduce transaction costs. Egypt's goal is to increase the proportion of clean energy to 45% by 2028, while simultaneously promoting the modernization and upgrading of the power grid to accommodate newly installed capacity. The Egyptian minister emphasized that the current power sector is focusing on four directions: local manufacturing of renewable energy equipment, increasing the proportion of local supply, strengthening public-private partnerships, and utilizing geographical advantages to export to regional markets. This cooperation with Sany is upgrading from product output to a dual cycle model of technology and industry, and is expected to become a new benchmark for China Egypt power capacity cooperation.Editor/Gao Xue
