As of May 8, 2026, the annual and external power transmission of the ± 800 kV Hami to Chongqing ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project has exceeded 10 billion kilowatt hours, reaching 10.1 billion kilowatt hours. The daily average external power transmission is 78 million kilowatt hours, and the maximum daily power transmission is 115 million kilowatt hours, effectively ensuring the optimization of cross regional energy resource allocation and helping to promote the green and low-carbon transformation of energy.

Billions of electricity spanning thousands of miles
The Hami to Chongqing Ultra High Voltage Project is the first ultra-high voltage direct current transmission project in China to be put into operation and transmitted from the Shagehuang New Energy Base, and also the first ultra-high voltage direct current receiving project in the southwest region. The project starts from Barkol Converter Station in Xinjiang and ends at Yubei Converter Station in Chongqing, with a total length of 2260 kilometers. The continuous supply of clean electricity from Xinjiang spans thousands of miles directly to Chongqing, further enhancing the supply capacity of Chongqing's power grid and serving the economic and social development of Chongqing. The project can annually transmit over 36 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to Chongqing, with clean energy accounting for more than half of the total, and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 16 million tons per year.

Multi energy complementary green development
Relying on the integrated development model of wind, solar, thermal, and energy storage, the Hami to Chongqing ultra-high voltage project is supporting the construction of 14.2 million kilowatts of power supply, of which new energy generation accounts for over 70% of the installed capacity. Since its commissioning and power transmission, the project has achieved significant economic, social, and ecological benefits. State Grid Chongqing Electric Power employees carried out fiber optic cable testing and other operation and maintenance work in the valve hall of Yubei Converter Station to ensure the safe and stable operation of the ultra-high voltage channel. As a transmission hub, the Barkol Converter Station in Xinjiang continues to convert wind and solar power from the Gobi Desert into clean energy and deliver it to the southwestern hinterland. Xinjiang Chongqing Collaborative Lean Operation and Maintenance
Since the project was put into operation and power transmission, the power grid enterprises in Xinjiang and Chongqing have collaborated and deepened the lean operation and maintenance of equipment throughout the entire cycle, carried out intelligent online monitoring on a regular basis, and made every effort to ensure the safe and stable operation of the ultra-high voltage channel. The close cooperation between the two places ensures the smooth flow of this green energy artery. With the continuous increase in external power transmission, the Xinjiang Electricity to Chongqing Project is providing a solid green energy guarantee for Chongqing's economic and social development, and also setting a new benchmark for optimizing the allocation of cross regional energy resources nationwide.Editor/Gao Xue
