In the hinterland of the Dabie Mountains, a pumped storage power station with a total installed capacity of 300000 kilowatts is accelerating its sprint. Recently, the overall construction progress of Dawu Pumped Storage Power Station has reached 83%, and the water storage elevation of the lower reservoir has stabilized at 111.12 meters. Units 1 and 2 have completed the construction of mechanical and electrical embedded parts and the installation of magnetic poles, and only the last step is left before they can be put into operation for power generation within the year. As a key project in the 14th Five Year Plan of the National Energy Administration and a key backbone project in Hubei Province, Dawu Power Station carries the strategic mission of optimizing the energy structure of the province and enhancing the peak shaving capacity of the power grid. It has now entered a critical stage of final battle.

Two units achieve victory in tackling challenges
At present, the construction of power stations has fully entered the deep-water zone of mechanical and electrical installation. The two generator sets, Unit 1 and Unit 2, have successfully completed core processes such as mechanical and electrical embedded parts construction and magnetic pole installation, clearing key obstacles for subsequent installation, commissioning, and grid connected operation. The water storage elevation of the reservoir remains stable at 111.12 meters, and the water storage conditions fully meet the construction and operation requirements.
According to the established plan, the project will also reach two major milestones: the overall lifting of the rotor of Unit 2 will be completed by the end of May, and the overall lifting of the rotor of Unit 1 will be completed by the end of July. As of the end of April 2025, the installed capacity of pumped storage in Hubei Province has reached 5.27 million kilowatts, ranking among the top in the country, but there is still a peak shaving gap of about 8 million kilowatts. After the 300000 kilowatt installed capacity of Dawu Power Station is put into operation, it will effectively fill the gap in regional peak shaving capacity and improve the grid's consumption level of clean energy such as wind power and photovoltaics.

Sprint towards the goal of grid connection by the end of October
The closer the project is to completion, the less attention should be paid to detail control. The construction team is always stationed on the front line, carrying out fine installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, normalized management of on-site safety, and quality control throughout the entire construction process, firmly guarding the safety bottom line, quality red line, and schedule nodes.
As of the first quarter of 2025, the proportion of renewable energy installed capacity in Hubei Province has exceeded 55%, and the construction of a new power system is accelerating. As a key component, the Dawu Power Station is expected to generate over 400 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually after completion, which can meet the annual electricity demand of about 120000 households. This is equivalent to reducing the consumption of standard coal by about 120000 tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 300000 tons per year.
