On May 14, 2026, employees of State Grid Xinjiang Ultra High Voltage Branch were conducting routine inspections at the ± 800 kV Hami to Chongqing Ultra High Voltage Project Barikun Converter Station. Since the project was put into operation in June 2025, the cumulative external transmission capacity has exceeded 20 billion kilowatt hours, and the maximum daily transmission capacity has reached 115 million kilowatt hours. Xinjiang has formed a pattern of two direct and three direct cross regional transmission channels, delivering clean electricity to 23 provinces across the country.

Forming of two cross and three straight external delivery channels

At present, the cross regional transmission capacity in Xinjiang has exceeded 30 million kilowatts, with three ultra-high voltage direct current channels from ± 1100 kV Changji to Guquan, ± 800 kV Hami South to Zhengzhou, and ± 800 kV Hami to Chongqing supporting each other with two 750 kV AC channels. As of March 18th, Xinjiang has cumulatively exported over 300 billion kilowatt hours of new energy electricity, highlighting its ability to ensure green power supply.

The proportion of new energy installed capacity exceeds 60%

As of the end of April 2026, the installed capacity of new energy in Xinjiang power grid exceeded 166 million kilowatts, accounting for over 60% of the total installed capacity of the entire grid, and new energy has become the main power source. Xinjiang has built 6 new energy bases with a capacity of 10 million kilowatts, including Hami, Changji, and Turpan, forming a complementary development pattern of wind power in northern Xinjiang and photovoltaic power in southern Xinjiang. Accelerating the construction of energy storage regulation system

Xinjiang has put the Fukang pumped storage power station into operation and is accelerating the construction of the Ruoqiang pumped storage project. As of the end of March, the scale of new energy storage in Xinjiang has reached 21.31 million kilowatts, and a coordinated regulation system of pumped storage and new energy storage has been established. In the first quarter of 2026, the amount of electricity transmitted from Xinjiang reached 40.008 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 23.42%.Editor/Gao Xue
