On June 2, 2020, Sichuan Transportation announced that China Railway Construction Kunlun Investment Group as the lead, Neijiang Road and Bridge Group and China Railway 17th Bureau won the bid for the Sichuan border project of the Neijiang-Dazu Expressway.

The route from Neijiang to Dazu Expressway starts from Shuili Village, Pingzhen Town, Dongxing District, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province (south of Wujia Town, Rongchang District, Chongqing City). Neijiang City Transit Expressway connects to Han'an Avenue in Neijiang City. The total length of the route is about 19.236 kilometers. This project adopts Sichuan-Chongqing cooperation and jointly handles the approval of toll projects with the Neijiang-Dazu Expressway (Chongqing Section).

The project is constructed according to the standard of a two-way four-lane expressway with a design speed of 120km/h and a subgrade width of 26.5m.

The total investment of the project is estimated at 2.507 billion yuan. The project capital shall be no less than 20% of the total investment of the project, and the project capital shall be fully funded by investors. Except for project capital, project construction funds are raised by the project company formed by investors. The construction period of this bidding project is expected to be 3 years. The maximum charging period of the project shall not exceed 30 years.

The construction of the project will add an exit channel between Chengdu and Chongqing, further improve the comprehensive layout of the expressway network of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, strengthen the connection between the cities of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone, and promote the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and the Sichuan-Chongqing Economic Cooperation. At the same time, it will greatly solve the shortcomings of the east-west rapid arterial road connection in the western Chongqing area, continuously strengthen the regional horizontal transportation links, and promote regional economic development.
