Recently, according to Wuhan Metro Group, the Jiangbei section of Wuhan Rail Transit Line 12 is scheduled to start construction in 2020. At present, the Jiangbei section of Line 12 is in the stage of preliminary design pending approval and construction mode research.

Wuhan Rail Transit Line 12 project is the main line in the fourth round of construction planning of Wuhan Rail Transit. The whole line includes Wuchang section and Jiangbei section, with a total length of about 59.9km (all underground lines) and 37 stations.

The Wuchang section includes: Science Park Station-Qingling Station, with a line length of 22.0km (full underground line), and a total of 14 stations;

The Jiangbei section includes: Qingling Station-Science Park Station, with a line length of about 37.9km (all underground lines), and a total of 23 stations.

The maximum station spacing of Wuhan Rail Transit Line 12 is 4226m (Danchi Station-Scipu Park Station), the minimum station spacing is 926m (Shuangdun Station-Huaihai Road Station), and the average station spacing is about 1,618m. The 6-car grouping of A-type vehicles is used. No reservation. There are a total of one section (Dan Shui Depot) and two sections (Banqiao Parking Lot and Fuxing Village Parking Lot) on the whole line, a new main transformer will be built, and an existing one will be transformed. The line crosses the lake twice (Mohuhu and Shahu); it crosses the river three times (the Yangtze River twice, and the Han River once); there are 15 lines underneath existing subway stations and existing subway interval tunnels, and 16 underneath existing railways.

The Wuchang section is expected to be completed and opened to traffic at the end of December 2024, and the Jiangbei section is expected to be completed and opened to traffic at the end of December 2025.
