On September 28, 2020, the "Announcement of the Tendering for the Total Price of the Construction of the New Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-speed Railway Station" was officially released. According to the content of the bidding announcement, the project is scheduled to start on November 10, 2020, with a construction period of 5 years and completion at the end of June 2025.

The newly-built Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway leads from Guangzhou Station to the west via Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, Maoming, Zhanjiang, and finally to Zhanjiang North Station, with a speed of 350 km/h. The newly-built double line is 400.1 km. 9 stations will be newly established: Foshan, Shinkansen Airport Station, Xinxing South Station, Yangchun East Station, Yangjiang North Station, Mata Station, Maoming South Station, Wuchuan Station and Zhanjiang North Station. Zhanjiang East Station and Yangxi Station are reserved. Including the construction of new connection lines in Guangzhou hub and the construction of Zhanjiang North EMU.

The scope of this tender is the general contracting of the GZEPC-2 bid section of the new Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway project in front of the station. It is divided into 9 bid sections and the mileage ranges from Foshan Station (excluding) to Xijiang Bridge and Xinxing South Station (not included). Inclusive) to Zhanjiang North Station (inclusive).

As the railway project with the highest standard, the longest line and the largest investment in the history of Guangdong Province, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-speed Railway is an important part of the high-speed railway corridor connecting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Beibu Gulf Urban Group.
