On January 18, 2021, the first 900-ton box girder of the Chengdu-Zigong high-speed railway was successfully erected at the Huangjiagou Bridge of the Chengdu-Zigong high-speed railway project. It is understood that the Chengzi high-speed railway has a total length of 176 kilometers. The main line starts from Chengdu East Station in the north, passes through Chengdu Tianfu Station, Ziyang West, Qiuxi, Weiyuan, and ends at Zigong East Station on the Southern Sichuan Intercity Railway. Yi Section constitutes Sichuan's first high-speed railway with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

According to Zhang Zongwei, the commander of Chengziyi Headquarters of Chenglan Railway Company, Chengzi high-speed rail is an important part of the Beijing-Kunming high-speed rail network of the national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed rail network. The Chengdu-Kunming high-speed railway from Chengdu to Kunming is also connected to the Guizhou Railway in Yibin, forming a high-speed railway passage from Chengdu to the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area via Guiyang. The entire line is expected to be opened by the end of 2023.
