The African Development Bank in France has approved a study on the feasibility of 2 million units of loan financing to expand the existing railway between Cameroon and the Republic of Chad, the two have been linked.

On February 20, 2021, Cameroonian Minister of Economy and Planning Alamine Ousmane Mey and African Development Bank country representatives signed a relevant agreement in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon. The Minister of Transport of the Republic of Cameroon and the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Chad also attended the meeting.

The research project ends in approximately 36 months.

Importance of the project

In particular, this railway line will extend from Ngadre or Ngadre, the capital of the Adamawa region of Cameroon, to N’Djamena, the capital and largest city of Chad. This line is one of the projects of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) regional transportation infrastructure development plan. It has an integrated status and will complete the multimodal transport between China and Africa.

According to the African Development Bank, it will also ease the pressure on the road network (the Douala-N’Djamena corridor, through which almost all imports and exports of Chad are transported), and eliminate many legal and illegal inspections by carriers The station frequently unloads and reloads.

The African Development Bank pointed out: “These unfavorable factors increase transportation costs and ultimately increase the cost of goods shipped to N’Djamena.”

In Cameroon, the project brings hope to residents of the North, Adamaowa and the Far North, as it will open up the poorest areas of the country.Editor/Huang Lijun
