Albania has signed a contract with a Swiss company to build a new international airport worth 104 million euros (125 million U.S. dollars). Lugano-based Mabco Constructions said on April 20 that it will complete the entire project in about four years.

Volora International Airport will be located 150 kilometers (90 miles) southwest of the capital Tirana and is planned to accommodate 2 million passengers per year. The consortium has 35 years of franchise rights.

Cux International Airport

Albania owns the Tirana Mother Teresa International Airport near the capital, and last week opened the Kuks International Airport in the northeast to handle low-cost flights. Cux Airport will provide direct links with Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom without revealing which airlines plan to establish links with the airport.

In March 2019, the Albanian government approved the Ministry of Infrastructure to select the concessionaire of Cux Airport. The joint venture formed by the Albanian registered company Global Technical Mechanics and Bami was announced in the tender for the reconstruction, operation and maintenance of Cux Airport. The investment in the project is approximately 8 million euros (9.7 million U.S. dollars).Editor/Huang Lijun
