After signing a framework cooperation agreement with Windar and Navantia for the manufacture and supply of 130 XXL monopile foundations, Iberdrola has advanced its growth strategy in the offshore wind power market and strengthened its role as a local industry The role of driving force. Through this agreement, Iberdrola can place orders worth up to 400 million euros to these manufacturers between 2023 and 2025 for future offshore wind farms and ensure the priority supply of some of these components in the next few years .

Starting from this contract, the consortium formed by Windar and Navantia will start the XXL monopile plant on land at the Navantia Shipyard in Fene (A Coruña). The construction of the plant will increase the capacity of the Navantia Shipyard in Fene and provide it with new products in the field of fixed marine infrastructure. This diversification has not been achieved until now, because it requires very special facilities. Monopile has been the star product of the foundation market in the past ten years, and this situation will continue to exist in the next few years. Windar-Navantia's planned investment includes the renovation of a building for bending thick metal plates up to 16m in diameter, a new spray booth and finished product storage area, as well as the latest technology and equipment required for manufacturing. The new XXL monopile plant will manufacture foundations over 100m long and weighing 2500 tons. It will be put into use within 13 months and will be located in part of the Fene shipyard’s facilities without interfering with the construction of other offshore wind power products. For example, jackets and floating structures.

Energy transition and green recovery

This move strengthens the company's commitment to the energy transition and its contribution to green recovery and employment through future renewable projects. It also strengthened the relationship between Iberdrola and Navantia-Windar that spanned more than seven years, and the contract value between them was close to 1.3 billion euros.

Successfully executed projects for Iberdrola by a consortium of Navantia Fene and Puerto Real (Cadiz) shipyards include the Wikinger offshore wind farm in the German waters of the Baltic Sea; East Anglia One, off the coast of the United Kingdom; located in Brittany, France The new Saint-Brieuc wind farm in the waters of Nigeria; and the two substations of the latter two wind farms were awarded to Navantia. In addition, Windar will make transitional components for Vineyard I, a wind farm that the energy company will build in the United States. A year ago, Iberdrola awarded the Navantia-Windar joint venture a contract to build 62 sets of jackets to support offshore wind turbines and the piles needed for the installation of the wind farm in Saint-Brieuc, France. This 350 million euro contract is the largest contract in the offshore wind power sector in Navantia-Windar's history.

Since then, the consortium has been manufacturing these jackets at the Fene shipyard and Windar's factory in Avilés. The final assembly of all parts will be completed at the Galician shipyard. More than 2,000 professionals are directly employed in all these tasks. In addition, local contractors in Spain and France will create thousands of jobs. Navantia-Windar has a production department in the port of Brest to manufacture jacket components for the fleet.

Towards global leadership

Let these contracts demonstrate the opportunities offered by the future market, offshore wind power-Ibedrolla is moving towards global leadership-and how the green economy can become an important aspect of industrialization and sustainable, high-quality employment.

Offshore wind power has been identified as one of the growth carriers of Ibedola: it has installed 1,300 MW and will triple this capacity through the current 2,600 MW construction. The group's current investment portfolio in this technology totals 20,000 MW, of which 9,000 MW is ready for construction. By 2030, Iberdrola is expected to reach 12,000 MW in operation.

Green investment that promotes economic recovery and employment

Iberdrola has been leading the energy transformation for two decades and is a key driving force for the transformation of the industrial structure and the green recovery of the economy and employment. The company has launched a historic investment plan worth 150 billion euros (75 billion euros by 2025) over the next ten years, aiming to triple the renewable energy capacity and network assets, and capitalize on the world’s major economies. Opportunities brought about by the energy revolution in China.

Iberdrola has invested 120 billion euros in the past 20 years to promote the energy transition. It is a leader in the field of renewable energy, with nearly 35,000 MW installed; this volume makes the power generation park one of the cleanest in the energy field.
