Saudi Arabia has undergone major transformations in recent years, transforming its economy into a green energy-focused economy. The government itself is taking the lead in charging fees and has set a goal of using renewable energy to generate 50% of electricity by 2030. NEOM is a sustainable area under development in the northwestern part of the Kingdom. It sets a precedent that all its suppliers must follow the highest possible sustainable processes to ensure contracts.
Tabuk, a company close to NEOM, is also following suit, looking for ways to be green and environmentally friendly. One of them is Tabuk Concrete Company, which is supplying concrete to contractors operated by the futuristic city NEOM. It is procuring new equipment to ensure that its construction methods are as green as possible. The company’s CEO Tarek Abdullah Abdin told Arab News that he has cooperated with the European company Putzmeister Truck Installation Concrete Pump Company to purchase one of the company’s most recent products, iONTRON. To comply with the guidelines set by NEOM.
iONTRON will reduce carbon dioxide emissions and noise pollution, and electricity will replace liquid fuels to power concrete pumps, thereby reducing direct emissions. Most concrete pumps driven by diesel produce approximately 26.53 kg of carbon dioxide per hour and require 10.2 liters of diesel. Conversely, a water pump powered by electricity can release zero kilograms of carbon dioxide and requires zero liters of diesel.
The first iONTRON concrete pump will be shipped by Tabuk Concrete to the Middle East, representing a new generation of sustainable design made from building materials in the region. In 2022, the concrete pump will be delivered to Saudi Arabia, and the Tabuk concrete plant will be equipped with more environmentally friendly technologies. NEOM announced this line earlier in 2021, which is a large-scale infrastructure project that will develop urban areas that can accommodate up to 1 million people. NEOM will develop the production line and other areas, which will provide huge opportunities for companies in the Tabuk area.
The Minister of Commerce of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Majid Kasabi, recently visited Tabuk and met with business and local suppliers (including Tabuk Concrete Company) to learn about how the Saudi Ministry of Commerce helped them gain great opportunities from NEOM and other nearby projects.
