China Harbour Engineering Corporation and Dutch dredging company Royal Boskalis Westminster have won a contract for a Manila Bay reclamation project worth 650 million euros.

The project will create three artificial islands for Philippine developer SM Prime Holdings, which are planned to be used as shopping centers and residences. The two companies will each take 325 million euros from the contract price.

Work on the project will begin in the first quarter of 2020 and is expected to be completed in 2023. The islands will be equipped with rock revetments for flood and flood prevention and 60,000 kilometers of vertical drainage ditch to accelerate soil settlement. The entire reclamation area will also be tamped mechanically to ensure soil stability. The perimeter of the island will be protected by a combination of rock revetments and concrete breakwaters.
