A consortium led by UAE-based Metito Group has begun construction on an independent wastewater treatment plant project (ISTP) in western Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The consortium includes Saudi-based water company Mowah, and Egyptian engineering, procurement and construction contractor Orascom Construction.
This project is the first ISTP awarded to investors by the Saudi Water Partners in a build-own-operate-transfer model. The plant will serve the western region of Dammam with an estimated design capacity of 350,000 cubic meters per day and an initial capacity of 200,000 cubic meters per day.

The project is expected to play an important role in the Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry's plan to tender similar projects to investors in different parts of Saudi Arabia. The project is scheduled to begin operations in 2022, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and initiatives approved by the Cabinet of Ministers to encourage private sector participation in economic development initiatives.
