The Sichuan-Tibet Railway is the second major railway passage into Tibet after the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, one end of which carries Chengdu in Sichuan and the other connects Lhasa in Tibet. According to the Sichuan Provincial Provincial Work Plan for Promoting Shortage Sectors in Key Areas such as Infrastructure, 2020, announced on March 6, the Sichuan-Tibet Railway Ya'an to Nyingchi section will start construction in 2020.

According to the official WeChat message of the National Development and Reform Commission, on February 28, the National Development and Reform Commission held the ninth pre-work video and telephone conference on railway construction projects. At the meeting, it was clearly stated that the scientific and solid progress in the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet railway and the acceleration of the high-speed railway along the river etc Backbone channel construction, strengthening the construction of central and western regions and ordinary speed railways.

The Sichuan-Tibet Railway starts in Chengdu, Sichuan, and passes through Pujiang, Ya'an, Kangding, Xinduqiao, Xianshuihe, Qamdo, Bangda, Nyingchi to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The Sichuan-Tibet Railway is approximately 1,580 kilometers long and will open from Chengdu to Lhasa after completion. The time will be shortened from 36 hours to about 12 hours. Among them, Sichuan is about 650 kilometers. The designed speed of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway is 200km / h, and the speed limit of some sections is 160km / h. The total investment is about 270 billion yuan.

The Sichuan-Tibet Railway is divided into three sections: Chengdu-Ya'an section: 200 kilometers per hour design speed, which has been completed and opened; Ya'an-Linzhi section: 998.61 km Pre-feasibility study has been completed, and the total construction period is 8 years; Lhasa-Linzhi section: 403.11 km (Single line of 160 km / h for general cargo) Construction started at the end of 2014, and the main subgrade project has been successfully completed.

Earlier, official media reported that the Ya'an to Nyingchi section of the railway is 998.61 kilometers long, and there will be 20 stations on the entire line (excluding Ya'an and Nyingchi stations). Of the 998.61 kilometers, the tunnel occupies 789 kilometers and 81.57% of the line length. Among them, there are 39 long tunnels over 10 kilometers with a mileage of 709 kilometers; 36 tunnels over 20 kilometers with a mileage of 445 kilometers; 5 super tunnels over 30 kilometers with a total of 182 kilometers; and the longest section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway from Ya'an to Nyingchi The tunnel is Yigong Tunnel, with a total length of 42.5 kilometers.

The Sichuan-Tibet Railway is a national strategic project for the western development. After the operation, the pressure on the Sichuan-Tibet line will be eased, and the transportation capacity to Tibet will be improved, and poverty alleviation will be promoted in the areas along the line.
