The Planning and Standards Research Institute of the National Railway Administration recently organized an industry review meeting for the feasibility study of the new Shanghai Hangzhou high-speed railway in Shanghai. As an important component of the railway network in the Yangtze River Delta region, this project has been included in China's "14th Five Year Plan" for railway development. The total length of the line is 224.067 kilometers, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour and a total investment of 67.255 billion yuan.
The review committee is commissioned by the Science, Technology and Legal Affairs Department of the State Railway Administration and jointly conducted with the consulting and evaluation work of the Basic Industry Department of the National Development and Reform Commission. The attending experts conducted in-depth discussions on the necessity, technical feasibility, safety and reliability of project construction, and formed expert group opinions. Representatives from the Development and Reform Commission and relevant units in Shanghai and Zhejiang Province attended the meeting.
According to the planning scheme, the Shanghai Hangzhou high-speed railway will connect Shanghai Situan Station with Hangzhou West Station in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, passing through Jiaxing City. There will be 9 stations along the line, including 4 new ones, 4 renovated and expanded ones, and 1 utilized one. After the completion of the project, it will significantly improve the transportation efficiency between the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration and promote the development of regional economic integration.
The high-speed railway project adopts double line electric traction, with bridges accounting for up to 94.95% and a planned construction period of 4 years. After completion, the project will become an important supplement to the eastern section of the Shanghai Kunming Expressway, effectively alleviating the existing railway transportation pressure and providing strong support for the economic and social development of the areas along the route. At present, the feasibility study report of the project has been submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission for approval, and it is expected to start construction within the year. As an important part of China's railway network construction, the implementation of the Shanghai Hangzhou high-speed railway will further optimize the transportation layout in the Yangtze River Delta region and promote regional coordinated development.
