Chaozhou wood carving, also known as Chaozhou golden lacquer wood carving, is mainly popular in Lianshang Village and Xidu Village, Yixi, Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou City. It also involves Raoping, Shantou, Chaoyang, Jieyang, Jiexi, Puning, Lufeng, Dapu, Wuhua, Xingning, Meixian and other counties and cities, as well as coastal areas in southeast Fujian.

Chaozhou wood carvings are mostly made of camphor wood with moderate tenacity. There are a variety of carving forms, including relief, sinking, round carving, engraving, and through carving. The finished products are exquisite and rich in layers.

Gu Liuxi, a national representative inheritor of Chaozhou wood carving, is also a master of Chinese arts and crafts. After more than 50 years of hard work, Gu Liuxi still felt that he needed to learn a lot. He said, "I have done and learned for more than 50 years, and now I still have to respect tradition and innovate."Editor/Ma Xue
