In the past few years, the town of Sauxiong, Botswana, has been experiencing a shortage of water resources. "The water shortage usually lasts for a month. At that time, we had to queue up in the village 23 kilometers away to get water from the well, which was very inconvenient," said Olekler's sister. Now, the problem of difficult water use in Shaoxiong Town has been solved after the expansion of Mahalape Water Plant. "After the completion of the new water plant, we have never encountered water stoppage again!" Olekler's sister said happily.
Mahalape Water Plant is located in Mahalape Town, 50km away from Shaoxiong Town. The upgrading project of the water plant was undertaken by CSCEC Botswana. The water purification capacity of the expanded water plant has increased from 16000 cubic meters to 34000 cubic meters per day, greatly improving the local water supply capacity. The water supply scope has been expanded to villages about 70km away, greatly alleviating the problem of local residents' water consumption.
"The construction of the new water plant has met the daily water demand. Now we use chlorine dioxide disinfectant for disinfection. Compared with the chlorine disinfectant used in the past, the disinfection effect is better and more lasting. In addition, the water plant has added activated carbon filtration process, which effectively improves the water quality and improves the quality of drinking water for the surrounding residents," said Badubi Ntzeqi, the manager of the water plant.
The construction of the water plant also provides many employment opportunities for local people. Kolebal, a municipal councillor, said that during the project construction, there were 260 employees, 218 of whom were local employees in Botswana, with a localization rate of 84%.Edit/Ma Xue
