In Xinjiang, there is a river that rushes through the vast expanse of land - the Yarkand River.
It originates from the majestic Karakoram Mountains, stretches for 1289 kilometers,
and is the largest tributary of the Tarim River.
However, it is also the river in Xinjiang with the most frequent floods and the greatest flood control pressure.
Every summer,
the confluence of glacial meltwater and heavy rainfall often triggers raging floods,
and the people downstream struggle against it year after year.Farmlands were flooded, homes were damaged, and nearly 90% of the rural workforce had to be投入 to flood control and disaster relief. The flood became a severe challenge hanging over the production and lives of people of all ethnic groups along the coast.
However, it was in such a difficult environment that our engineers rose to the challenge and built the unprecedented Altash Water Conservancy Project in Xinjiang, among thousands of gullies and valleys.
It is hailed by many as the "Three Gorges Project" of Xinjiang, a modern water conservancy miracle that embodies wisdom, courage, and perseverance.Today, let's step behind the lens together, to get a closer look at this magnificent project, and listen to how it tames floods and safeguards the peace and tranquility of thousands of homes.
