On January 5, 2023, Quzhou Shuanggang Bridge, a through steel truss arch bridge with a weight of more than 12000 tons, was designed by China Railway 17th Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and built by China Railway 17th Engineering Group Co., Ltd. After 25 days of pushing operation, it successfully crossed Jiangshan Port and reconnected the new and old urban areas. This jacking construction is equivalent to pushing the bridge body with the size of two football fields and the height of 19 floors by 245 meters, breaking the construction record of similar bridges in China.

The Shuanggang Bridge in Quzhou was originally a large stone arch bridge built in early 1962. As the city gateway connecting the urban area of Quzhou, the bridge has accompanied Quzhou citizens to witness the urban changes for more than half a century.

At the end of November 2021, the bridge will be demolished by blasting, and a two-way six lane road will be rebuilt at the original site, with non motor vehicle lanes and sidewalks on both sides, and an urban trunk road with accessible elevators and passages on both ends.

In the design of the newly-built Shuanggang Bridge, CREEC took Longfei Shuanggang as the design theme. The overall shape captures the natural landscape of Lanke Mountain. The bridge structure details are derived from the geographical shape of the local Changshan Port and Jiangshan Port, which converge into Qujiang River, further promoting the urban spirit of respecting history, openness and inclusiveness. The newly-built Shuanggang Bridge will also become a new landmark of the local city.

The Shuanggang Bridge in Quzhou City is 640 meters long in total. The main bridge is a 290 meter through steel truss arch bridge, 57 meters high and 42 meters wide. It is composed of more than 1300 steel members, with a total weight of more than 12000 tons. It is located in the port basin and faces a flood season of up to three months each year. In addition, the rainy climate in the south has brought many challenges to the construction.

The original construction plan adopted the underwater support assembly and hoisting construction, with only one working face, and it was difficult to transport the assembly materials. The construction team of China Railway 17th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. proposed to change the optimization of river course assembly to land assembly and overall pushing. The onshore assembly can increase 4 working faces synchronously, greatly improve the work efficiency, effectively save the construction period of 6 months, reduce the pollution to the river course, and also avoid the impact of aviation height limit on the bridge construction.

In order to ensure the safety, stability and accuracy of the overall jacking process, China Railway 17th Engineering Group Co., Ltd., China Railway Fifth Research Institute, Zhejiang University and other scientific research institutions have jointly tackled many technical problems, such as multi-point, heavy weight, long distance and high precision, through repeated research and demonstration and hundreds of simulation experiments. The construction team has specially developed three-way walking launching equipment, which can correct the deviation in the process of launching from front to back, up and down, left and right, and adjust the stress at any time, promoting the development of integral launching technology of steel truss arch bridge towards a larger span and tonnage.

The assembly of steel truss is an important part of the launching construction. The construction team uses BIM technology to guide the production and assembly of steel members. In addition, it also uses monitoring methods such as big data, cloud computing, positioning measurement, etc. to analyze the force and stability of the bridge in real time. Through the unified command of the computer brain, it uses the jacking power system to carry out cyclic operations, and synchronously controls 22 jacks to lift the sedan chair in the way of pushing, making the bridge efficient, stable The safe completion of launching construction provides reference experience for similar construction in China.

The completion of the Shuanggang Bridge will further open the west gate of Zhejiang, which is of great significance for Quzhou to build a marginal transportation and logistics center city in Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Anhui provinces, and to promote the integrated development of higher quality transportation in the Yangtze River Delta.
