Recently, significant progress has been made in the construction of the Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway project, and the bidding work for the construction drawing review of the Zhejiang and Fujian sections has been completed successively. This major transportation project with a total investment of approximately 76.479 billion yuan has officially entered the substantive promotion stage, marking a crucial step forward in the construction of China's southeast coastal high-speed rail network.
It is reported that the total investment of the Wenfu high-speed railway project includes 39.925 billion yuan for the Fujian section and 36.554 billion yuan for the Zhejiang section, with a construction period of 5 years (60 months). It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic around 2030. The route starts from Leqing Station in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province in the north and ends at Fuzhou South Station in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province in the south, with a total length of about 302 kilometers, including 203.822 kilometers in Fujian Province and 98.424 kilometers in Zhejiang Province.
As an important component of China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network along the coast, the Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway will connect multiple important cities such as Wenzhou and Taizhou in Zhejiang Province, Ningde and Fuzhou in Fujian Province. After the completion of the project, it will form a closed loop with Hangzhou Wenzhou high-speed railway, Fuzhou Xiamen high-speed railway, etc., and build a new modern high-speed railway channel along the southeast coast, achieving "one hour direct access" to cities such as Wenzhou, Ningde, and Fuzhou, significantly enhancing the transportation connection between the Yangtze River Delta region and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
The Fujian section of the line is located in Fuzhou and Ningde cities, with a total length of 203.822 kilometers and a bridge tunnel ratio of 92.4%. There are a total of 7 stations along the entire line, including 3 new stations: Fuding West Station, Zherong Station, and Fu'an Station. In terms of technical standards, the Fujian section adopts a fully enclosed and fully overpass design, with a main line design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, equipped with an advanced CTCS-3 level train control system, and a minimum travel interval of only 3 minutes, which can meet the requirements of high-density operation.

The Zhejiang section of the line starts from Leqing Station in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province and ends at the border between Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, with a main line length of 98.424 kilometers. This section will simultaneously construct related projects for the Wenzhou hub, including the expansion of Wenzhou South Railway Station, the construction of important supporting facilities such as Wenzhou East Station Building and Rui'an East Station Building. The technical standards are consistent with the Fujian provincial section, and the design speed of the main line is also 350 kilometers per hour.
Industry experts point out that the construction of the Wenzhou Fuzhou high-speed railway will effectively solve the bottleneck problem of the high-speed railway corridor along the southeast coast of China. After the completion of the project, the travel time from Wenzhou to Fuzhou will be reduced from the current 2 hours or more to less than 1 hour, significantly improving regional transportation efficiency. At the same time, the project will also promote the development of tourism resources along the route, promote industrial upgrading and regional economic integration.
At present, the feasibility study of the project has been approved, and the start of the construction drawing review work has laid a solid foundation for the subsequent comprehensive construction. Local governments along the route are actively promoting preliminary preparations such as land acquisition and demolition, ensuring that the project will start construction as planned in 2026 and be completed and opened to traffic by 2030. The implementation of this project will further improve the layout of China's high-speed railway network and inject new impetus into regional economic and social development.
