Recently, a reporter from Jiandao.com learned from the Yuncheng Development and Reform Commission that the Yuanqu Phase II pumped storage project was approved by the Provincial Development and Reform Commission. This project is the first to be approved among the 10 key pumped storage projects in Shanxi Province in 2022.

Project Description

The project is located on the Banjian River in Xieyu Township, Yuanqu County. It is designed to install four 300,000-kilowatt units with an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts and a total investment of 9.408 billion yuan. It will be implemented by Shanxi Silk Road Jinyuan Electric Power Co., Ltd.

The pumped storage power station has multiple functions such as peak regulation, frequency regulation, phase regulation, and valley filling. It can optimize the energy structure and ensure the safe and stable operation of the power system. It is of great significance to improve energy utilization efficiency, ensure energy security, and achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction. The construction of this project plays an important supporting role in driving the development of related industries in Yuncheng City and stimulating the city's fixed asset investment.

After the project is completed and put into operation, it can reduce about 1.11 million tons of raw coal, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 2.07 million tons, and reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by about 6,900 tons. It has good ecological benefits and will play a positive role in achieving the double carbon target of Yuncheng City effect. Editor / Zhao E
