The Indian government plans to start 100 airport projects by the end of 2024. VK Singh announced the plan in a written reply from Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India's parliament. He said the government would develop the facilities as part of its regional connectivity plan.

The minister commented that AAI and other airport operators aim to invest around $13 billion in capital expenditure in the Indian airports sector by 2025 for the construction of greenfield airports and terminals, expansions and existing airports. Modernization of station buildings and reinforcement of runways, among other activities.

Of this, AAI generated more than $3 billion in capex, with the remainder being borne by private airport operators and developers. Greenfield airports to be built in the next five years include Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra, Vijayapura, Hassan and Shivamoga in Karnataka, Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and Dublin in Gujarat.
