Recently, the first section of the Nile East Monorail in Egypt, jointly constructed by Alstom, Orascom Construction Company, and Arab contractor companies, has officially entered commercial operation, becoming the first monorail system on the African continent. This 56 kilometer long route is providing a new travel solution for Cairo, a super city with a population of nearly 25 million.

Twenty two stations spanning fifty-six kilometers

The eastern route of the Nile River is 56 kilometers long and has 22 stations, of which 16 have been opened for passenger transport. The line adopts Alstom Innovia monorail system, with a one-way capacity of up to 45000 passengers per hour, aiming to significantly reduce dependence on private cars. It only takes about 40 minutes for a monorail train to travel from Mushir Tantavi Station to Justice City Station, while road travel takes about 80 minutes. This project is a key project for the development of urban transportation in the Cairo metropolitan area, connecting the eastern part of the capital with the newly constructed administrative capital and residential development zone.

Fully Automated Autonomous Driving Technology

The Alstom Innovia monorail system adopts CBTC GoA4 fully automatic unmanned driving signal technology and integrates platform screen doors, which is the first application of such passenger safety facilities in Africa, effectively improving operational safety and efficiency. The train is manufactured at Alstom's Derby factory in the UK, and all testing and debugging are completed with the assistance of the local engineering team. The President of Alstom Africa, Middle East and Central Asia pointed out that the Innovia monorail system is not only a significant change for Egypt, but also for the entire African continent. Localization rate reaches 98%

Alstom has been deeply rooted in Egypt for over 40 years and currently has about 800 employees. It has established localized capabilities in areas such as signal systems, power supply facilities, and vehicle equipment. The Managing Director of Alstom Egypt stated that over 98% of the project's workforce comes from Egypt, demonstrating the excellence of local engineering technology and profound local expertise. It not only changes the way of transportation, but also symbolizes local capabilities, providing strong support for Egypt's 2030 vision towards intelligent, sustainable, and future oriented urban transportation.Editor/Gao Xue
