The construction of transportation connectivity has always been one of the key factors restricting trade exchanges among Central Asian countries. The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Uzbekistan agreed to strengthen their bilateral relations in the field of transit and transport and implement the Ashgabat Agreement.

In line with this, Uzbekistan's trade and economic delegation and Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development agreed on March 12 to implement a comprehensive program to expand bilateral transit and transport cooperation.

During a joint meeting between Tehran and Uzbekistan negotiating teams, Acting Foreign Minister Bakhtiar Saidov and Uzbek Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov on March 12, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash pointed to the transit sector as an important strategic area of cooperation between the two countries One, and said that Iran and Uzbekistan have great potential in promoting mixed transport and developing transit relations.

Referring to the possibility of maritime economic prosperity in Iran's southern ports, Bazrpash said that Uzbekistan's request to join the Chabahar Agreement has been accepted. In May 2016, the transport ministers of India, Iran and Afghanistan signed the "Trilateral Transit Agreement" (Chabahar Agreement).

The Acting Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan expressed satisfaction with the fulfillment of the agreement reached by the two countries in 2022, emphasizing that "transportation" and "logistics" are the main fulcrums of economic relations between the two countries. Bakhtiar Saidov went on to say that the movement of goods between Iran and Uzbekistan has increased significantly. During the meeting, the two sides agreed to boost rail and road transport activities by reducing tariffs, while easing border crossing conditions for truck drivers from both countries.
