On May 12, 2023, Unit 6 of Fengning Pumped Storage Power Station Phase I, the largest pumped storage power station under construction in the world under construction by the Seventh Bureau of Hydropower, completed its 15-day assessment trial operation, marking all units of the first phase of the power station project Put into operation and generate electricity.

The power station is located on the main stream of the Luan River in Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, Hebei Province. The storage capacity of the upper reservoir is 48.14 million cubic meters, the storage capacity of the lower reservoir is 59.61 million cubic meters, and the total installed capacity is 3600 megawatts. The construction scale ranks the largest in the world. It is divided into two phases of development, each 1,800 MW, and the first phase of the project will install 6 constant-speed pump-turbine generator sets with a single-unit capacity of 300 MW.

It is reported that the power station is known as the world's largest encyclopedia in the field of super charging treasure and pumped storage power stations. After completion, it will be connected to the Beijing-Tianjin and northern Hebei power grids, and will undertake peak regulation, frequency regulation, phase regulation, energy storage, system backup and blackout. Start and other six major functions will further promote the large-scale development of wind power and solar power in northern Hebei, optimize the energy structure in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and help the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to achieve the double carbon target.
