CNNC is the main body of China's nuclear technology industry, constantly promoting the active, safe and orderly development of nuclear energy, building a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient modern energy system, always actively implementing the the Belt and Road initiative, and establishing friendly cooperative relations with countries along the line.
Recently, Pakistan held the groundbreaking Groundbreaking ceremony for Unit 5 (C-5) of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant. This is the third unit of China's independent third-generation nuclear power Hualong One exported to Pakistan, and also the seventh unit of China's nuclear power exported to Pakistan, which is another important milestone in the nuclear energy cooperation between China and Pakistan.
Project Overview
The Chashma Nuclear Power Plant was the first commercial nuclear power plant designed and built by China for export, and was the largest high-tech complete export project in China at that time. The power station is located in the northwest of the Chair Desert in the Punjab Plain, on the east bank of the Indus River, 280 kilometers away from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The Hualong One technology adopted by Unit 5 is one of the most advanced nuclear power technologies in the world at present, and is the main model of China's nuclear power industry. After completion, it is estimated that the annual power generation will be nearly 10 billion kWh, which can meet the annual power demand of more than 4 million households in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shabaz stated that the commencement of Unit 5 of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant is a significant milestone and another success story in practical cooperation between the two countries, symbolizing the enduring friendship between China and Pakistan. The cooperation between the two countries in the field of clean and efficient energy is worthy of learning and reference from countries around the world. The Pakistani side deeply appreciates China's firm financial support during the difficult economic period, which not only helps Pakistan avoid default risks, but also injects confidence into the Pakistani economic market and investment.
Pang Chunxue stated that the power plant is another important achievement of nuclear energy cooperation between the two countries, which will help Pakistan build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system. This year is not only the tenth anniversary of the launch of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, but also the tenth anniversary of the the Belt and Road Initiative. China is willing to promote the practical cooperation between the two countries to further deepen and implement, and build a closer China Pakistan community of common destiny in the new era.
At present, China and Pakistan have cooperated to build 6 units, which can provide nearly 30 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity to the local area every year, equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by 9.38 million tons per year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 24.48 million tons, and planting 210 million trees.Editor/Ma Xue
