Alcemi, the developer of battery energy storage systems, has obtained planning permission for two 1.5GW battery energy storage system projects in Scotland. These projects are part of Alcemi's larger 4GW energy storage product portfolio being deployed across the UK.

The Devilla energy storage project is located in Fave, northern Edinburgh, with capacities of 500 megawatts and 1000 megawatt hours. The Rawllls energy storage project is located in Coalburn, southern Glasgow, with a capacity of 1GW/2GWh.

Both plans were developed in collaboration with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards. They were developed in collaboration with CIP through their flagship fund.

James Forster, Chief Development Director of Alcemi, stated that this is a remarkable achievement for Alcemi, driving our mission to promote the UK's transition to clean energy. These projects will provide stability for the power grid, limit network restrictions, and are crucial for maximizing our offshore wind power generation.

They are a key component in ensuring the transportation of renewable energy throughout the country. As part of the ongoing commitment to environmental management, these projects include initiatives such as tree and shrub cultivation, as well as the creation of new wildlife habitats.

CIP is expected to conduct FID on these projects later in 2024, and construction will begin shortly thereafter. CIP and Alcemi established a strategic partnership in March 2022. It aims to enhance the UK's renewable energy capacity and support the UK's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.Editor/XingWentao
