On February 18, the first working day of the Year of the Dragon, Zhejiang Province held the 2024 "thousand trillion" major projects to start operation activities, the first phase of Zhejiang Jinqimen Nuclear Power Project, which is invested and held by China Nuclear Power Co., LTD., is one of the projects announced to start construction in Ningbo, Zhejiang.

Before the commencement ceremony, CNNC held a mobilization meeting with the theme of "Overall · Coordinated high-quality and high standard Construction of Jinqimen Nuclear Power Project". On December 29, 2023, the executive meeting of The State Council reviewed and decided to approve the Zhejiang Jinqimen nuclear power project. Jinqimen Nuclear Power actively implemented the relevant requirements of the meeting, planning to build six third-generation nuclear power units, all using "Hualong One" technology to meet the highest international safety standards, is the largest advanced nuclear power unit group in China, will create a new paradigm for the development of nuclear energy industry in Zhejiang Province, the project will be started for the optimization and transformation of Zhejiang energy structure inject new impetus.

The national name card "Hualong One" is an important achievement of CNNC to accelerate the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and implementation of the national "dual carbon" strategy. At present, "Hualong One" has become one of the most competitive three-generation nuclear power models in the world nuclear power market. It is understood that each nuclear power unit of "Hualong One" generates more than 10 billion KWH per year, which can meet the annual production and domestic electricity demand of 1 million people in medium-developed countries. At the same time, it is equivalent to reducing the consumption of standard coal by 3.12 million tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 8.16 million tons per year, which is equivalent to planting more than 70 million trees.

Jinqimen Nuclear Power Project is located in Jinqimen Village, Xiangshan County, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. It is developed and constructed by CNPC Zheneng Energy Co., LTD., which is controlled by China Nuclear Power Co., LTD. The project will be built in stages, the first phase of the project to start for 2 million kilowatt nuclear power units. After the completion of the six units of the project, the total installed capacity is about 7.2 million kilowatts, and the annual on-grid electricity is about 55 billion kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to reducing the emission of carbon dioxide by about 50 million tons and afforestation 31 West Lake scenic areas.
