French Minister of Economy and Finance Le Maire recently solemnly announced that the government will take a series of measures, including providing subsidies and revising carbon content standards, to support and promote the development of the "made in France" solar panel industry. This strategic initiative has been graphically called the "Solar Battle Plan" by Minister Le Maire.

According to Bloomberg News, Minister Le Maire made it clear in his speech that by 2030, French-made solar panels will account for 40% of the market share. To achieve this goal, the government has decided to fund two solar panel production plants led by French startups Carbon SAS and HoloSolis SAS, with a total investment of 2.2 billion euros between the two companies. In addition, the two companies are also likely to enjoy tax breaks of up to 200 million euros this year and may receive additional financial support.

It is worth mentioning that from the middle of this year, the French government will also strengthen carbon content standards in the bidding of rooftop photovoltaic projects, and provide more incentives for the use of "low carbon" panels in small ground-based photovoltaic projects. If this strategy is successful, the French government will also consider extending the carbon content standard to all government-backed solar installation schemes.

However, although Minister Le Maire's move is aimed at promoting the development of the French solar panel industry, according to the European edition of the US "Politico News network" reported that his urging EU countries to buy "French-made" solar panels on a large scale may violate EU rules prohibiting public project contracts favoring one country's companies.

In his speech, Minister Le Maire also stressed the importance of "European sovereignty" and claimed that "European protectionism is the same as that of the United States and China." He further added that while it is vital to maintain business ties with Chinese and American companies, France still wants to do more to support its own and European companies. This position reflects France's recognition of the importance of cooperation with other countries while safeguarding its own interests and promoting the development of European industry.
