Goldwind Technology's Green Methanol Production Project Officially Launched

In recent years, with the increasing call for green transformation in the global shipping industry, green methanol is gradually emerging and becoming an important supporting force for achieving this transformation goal. Due to its extremely low carbon emissions during production and use, green methanol can not only be used directly as a clean fuel, but also as a hydrogen energy carrier, effectively solving the problem of hydrogen energy storage and transportation. According to the DNV Alternative Fuel Insight data platform, in January 2024, the number of new ship orders using methanol fuel reached 23, compared to only 10 LNG powered ships. The forecast of COSCO Shipping further confirms the broad prospects of green methanol. It is expected that by 2030, the demand for green methanol in the shipping industry will reach an astonishing 100 million tons. However, the current global production capacity is far from meeting this demand.

In this context, Goldwind Technology actively expands green methanol production capacity with industry partners based on its advantages in renewable energy business. In November 2023, Goldwind Technology partnered with world shipping giant A P. Muller Maersk has signed a long-term green methanol procurement agreement with an annual production capacity of 500000 tons to support Maersk's first batch of 12 large methanol dual power ships to achieve low-carbon operation, with an expected first production in 2026. This agreement is the first large-scale green methanol procurement agreement in the global shipping industry, which will be valid until after 2030. The methanol production in the agreement includes green biomass methanol and electricity to methanol, which will be produced in the 500000 ton green methanol coupling project of Jinfeng Technology's Xing'an League wind power, achieving the production of green fuel using green electricity and supporting the green closed-loop development of green shipping.

The project covers a total area of over 1800 acres and is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 500000 tons of green methanol after completion and operation. The base will be built into a model of modern green methanol manufacturing base with advanced technology, complete equipment, and excellent efficiency. During the construction process, the base will focus on environmental protection and sustainable development, committed to reducing carbon emissions in the production process, improving resource utilization efficiency, and making positive contributions to promoting the development of green shipping industry.

Su He, Deputy Secretary of the Xing'an League Committee, stated that Xing'an League adheres to driving the development of new industries with new energy. The 500000 ton green methanol project of Goldwind Technology is a landmark project for Xing'an League to build a green hydrogen production base for synthetic ammonia and green methanol in eastern Mongolia.
