Coinciding with the United Nations Chinese Language Day, many countries have recently held colorful celebrations. Chinese language lovers around the world express their passion for learning Chinese and their love for Chinese culture by watching performances, visiting exhibitions and participating in hands-on experiences.

The Chinese Embassy in the UK held an exhibition on the Evolution of Chinese Characters and the opening ceremony of the UN Chinese Language Day in London on May 20. The exhibition selects key physical evidence in the development process of Chinese character printing technology to show the road to modernization of Chinese character printing.

Yang Xiaoguang, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, said in his opening speech that after thousands of years of evolution and development, Chinese characters have been deeply integrated into the cultural genes of the Chinese nation. Chinese characters are stable and dignified, balanced and symmetrical, and rich in heritage, showing the characteristics of Chinese culture that emphasizes peace, harmony and cooperation. Frances Wood (Chinese name Wu Fangsi), a well-known British Sinologist, said that the exhibition will help British audiences better learn Chinese.

The Confucius Institute at Transylvania University in Brasov, Romania, held a series of activities themed "Chinese Language: Building a Bridge of Mutual Learning among Civilizations" on the 19th. Zhang Lili, cultural counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Romania, said in her speech that Chinese characters carry Chinese culture and philosophy, hoping that more and more students can further understand Chinese history and culture through learning Chinese, and enhance China-Romania friendship. In her speech, Corina Miku, head of International Relations at the University of Transylvania, thanked everyone for their joint cultural cultivation during the "grain rain" season, which symbolizes a good beginning and is suitable for planting crops.

At the Chinese Language Day celebration held at the University of Zambia on the 19th, guests participated in interactive projects such as calligraphy experience, facial painting, and trying on ethnic costumes to experience the charm of Chinese culture and civilization. Namangara, acting president of the University of Zambia, said that currently the Chinese language education in Zambia is booming and the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries are constantly deepening, and thanked China for its long-term strong support for Zambia's education and economic and social development.

"Lanting Yaji" Chinese calligraphy theme event was held at the China Cultural Center in Brussels, Belgium on the 19th. Chinese calligrapher and painter Zhang Wenhai introduced the evolution and development of Chinese calligraphy in different periods, and guided the audience to paint a long scroll of calligraphy. Vito Borrelli, an official from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture, who attended the event, said he was impressed by the beauty of Chinese calligraphy and its evolution in the long history.
