The Xiangshan Shipu Port Submarine Tunnel and Connection Project, as an important component of the S202 Provincial Road Jiaxiang Line, has a total length of about 6.7 kilometers, of which the key tunnel section occupies about 4.2 kilometers, making it a grand transportation construction project. In the design and construction, the project strictly follows the construction standards of first-class highway to ensure quality and safety. Especially in the cross sea tunnel section, the engineering team adopted shield tunneling method for construction. The application of this advanced technology not only improves construction efficiency, but also ensures the safety and stability of the tunnel.

It is worth mentioning that the tunnel section also meets the standards of highways, laying a solid foundation for future rapid traffic. The outer diameter of the shield tunnel reaches 13.3 meters, and it is equipped with two-way four lanes inside. This design greatly improves the tunnel's traffic capacity, providing strong guarantees for the safety and rapid passage of vehicles. The implementation of this project not only marks the birth of Ningbo's first underwater shield tunnel, but also sets a new record for the length of underwater shield tunnels that pass through all muddy soft soil layers in China, demonstrating China's outstanding strength in tunnel construction.

At present, the transportation from Shipu to Hepu is relatively complicated. In addition to taking a ferry, driving requires passing through the Sanmenkou Bridge on Gaotang Island, and then taking a detour around the Limen Port Bridge, covering a total distance of nearly 40 kilometers and taking about 50 minutes. Such traffic conditions not only affect people's travel efficiency, but also to some extent constrain the economic and social development of the region. However, once the underwater tunnel and connection project of Shipu Port in Xiangshan are opened, this situation will be fundamentally changed. The journey from Shipu to Hepu will be greatly shortened, taking only about 5 minutes to reach, which will undoubtedly greatly improve transportation efficiency, shorten people's travel time, and bring great convenience to people's travel.
