In order to effectively alleviate the traffic demand pressure in central Shenzhen and improve the urban functions of the Meilin area, the Caimei Interchange reconstruction project has officially started recently. The implementation of this project marks another solid step taken by Shenzhen in the construction of transportation infrastructure.

The Caimei Interchange Renovation Project is located on the development axis of central Shenzhen and is composed of Caitian-Meilin Interchange and Beihuan-Caitian Interchange. As the development axis of central Shenzhen and the urban functions of the Meilin area become increasingly perfect, the traffic demand in this area has also shown explosive growth, and the existing Caimei traffic capacity is no longer able to meet this demand.

In order to cope with this challenge, the Caimei Interchange Renovation Project will comprehensively transform the intersection of Caitian Road, Meilin Road and Beihuan Avenue. The project plans to demolish the existing Caitian Road main bridge and build a new two-way six-lane bridge to improve traffic capacity. At the same time, on the basis of the existing interchange turning function, a new ramp will be built to improve the transportation network.

The project has a wide construction scope and involves many important road sections such as Caitian Road, Beihuan Avenue, and Meilin Road. Among them, the reconstruction length of Caitian Road is 1.40 kilometers, and the total length of new bridges and culverts at the interchange is about 1.92 kilometers. This renovation project will further improve the traffic steering function of the Caitian-Meilin-Beihuan Interchange, strengthen the connection of external transportation in the Meilin area, and achieve the goal of becoming the main rapid transit corridor along the central axis.

The completion of the Caimei Interchange renovation project is of great significance for alleviating traffic pressure in central Shenzhen and optimizing urban functions. It can not only improve the traffic capacity of the transportation network, but also strengthen the connections between various areas of the city and promote the development of the urban economy. At the same time, this project is also one of Shenzhen’s important measures to promote the construction of transportation infrastructure and optimize urban layout.Editor/Cheng Liting
