The Philippine Department of Transportation recently issued an official announcement that the construction project of the new passenger terminal at Caticlan Airport has been confirmed to be undertaken by Trans Aire Development Holdings Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shengli Group. According to the project plan, the construction of the project will officially start from June to July 2024, and it is promised to complete all construction tasks before 2028.
As the most important aviation hub on Boracay Island, Caticlan Airport is the first airport facility in the Philippines to adopt a privatized operation model. Philippine Transportation Secretary Vince Dijon emphasized at the press conference that the implementation of this project will significantly enhance the airport's passenger throughput capacity and service quality, providing strong infrastructure support for the development of tourism in Boracay Island and surrounding areas. The President and CEO of Shengli Group, Cai Qiwen, has made a formal commitment to the Philippine government to strictly adhere to the contracted schedule and quality standards for project construction.
Philippines fully promotes airport privatization process
In addition to the Caticlan Airport project, the Philippine government has also formulated an ambitious infrastructure construction plan to modernize 10 regional airports through a Public Private Partnership model by 2028, including:
Iloilo International Airport
Davao International Airport
Siargao Airport
Laoag International Airport
Busuanga Airport
Bicol International Airport
Tacloban Airport
Bacolod Silay International Airport
General Santos International Airport
Puerto Princesa International Airport
Among them, the privatization process of Iloilo International Airport has progressed the fastest, and the well-known Philippine enterprise group Villar Group has officially submitted an investment intention letter. The Philippine Department of Transportation has stated that it may adopt an innovative "package bidding" model in the future to attract more international investors' attention and participation.
Strategic significance of the project
This series of airport upgrade and renovation plans is an important component of the Philippine government's "Big Build, Special Build" infrastructure construction plan, aimed at comprehensively improving the modernization level of the Philippine air transport network, enhancing the competitiveness of the international tourism market, and creating long-term stable business cooperation opportunities for domestic and foreign investors.
