The Nigeria AKK natural gas pipeline project, also known as the Nigeria Ajakuta Kaduna Kano natural gas pipeline project, is a major energy strategy project planned by the Nigerian government and a key component of the country's natural gas pipeline network. This project undertakes the important task of transporting natural gas from the southern gas source area of Nigeria to gas consuming units in the north, and has strategic significance for improving Nigeria's energy structure, promoting economic development, and benefiting people's livelihoods.
The project has a total length of 614 kilometers, of which China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau has undertaken the design, procurement, and construction tasks of 318.6 kilometers of pipelines, metering stations, cleaning stations, valve chambers, communication optical cables, etc. for the second section. This project is not only Nigeria's first large-diameter, long-distance, and high standard natural gas pipeline, but also one of the largest single contract projects undertaken by the Pipeline Bureau overseas in recent years.
During the project execution process, the Pipeline Bureau faced many challenges. Firstly, Nigeria has high localization requirements, and the project team needs to recruit and train a large number of local employees to meet project requirements. Secondly, the terrain and topography of the project site are complex, and the construction difficulty is high, especially in hilly and shrub forest areas, where the working conditions are extremely difficult. In addition, high social security risks and oil shortages have also brought considerable pressure to the project.

Faced with many challenges, the project management team of China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau fully leverages the advantages of integrated management of "design procurement construction". Through full process and job training, a project management and construction team with a localization rate of over 90% has been established, achieving effective integration of Chinese and Nepalese personnel. In key technical areas such as semi-automatic welding technology, concrete wrapped pipe installation, river directional drilling, and road top pipe crossing, the project team has made significant breakthroughs, not only improving construction efficiency but also greatly saving construction costs. Especially in the KP350-KP358 section, the project team overcame unfavorable conditions such as undulating terrain, narrow work areas, and muddy rainy season. By optimizing the construction plan, strengthening organizational deployment, and arranging two fully localized welding units to work simultaneously, the welding task was successfully completed before the rainy season, removing the biggest obstacle to the overall completion of the project. The overall progress of the AKK project has exceeded 50%, the construction progress of the line has exceeded 80%, and multiple key nodes have been successfully completed. The successful implementation of the project has not only made important contributions to Nigeria's energy construction, but also further enhanced the visibility and influence of China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau in the international market. In the future, with the continuous progress and completion of the project, the AKK natural gas pipeline will become an important artery for Nigeria's energy supply, injecting new impetus into the country's economic and social development.
