The 1.2 million kilowatt pumped storage power station project of Shanxi Huadian Puxian has officially started. This is also the world's first demonstration project of anti-seepage technology for the entire reservoir basin constructed in a strong karst geological area. The application of this technology can effectively solve the most difficult problem of leakage in reservoirs.
The Puxian Pumped Storage Power Station is located in an area with strong karst development and leakage, and there is natural leakage in the river geology. The project innovatively constructed a comprehensive anti-seepage technology system for the entire reservoir basin, including a flood discharge tunnel, a branch ditch flood discharge tunnel, and a bottom drainage gallery. This not only solves the problem of upstream water infiltration and reverse pressure damage, but also avoids a large amount of water resource waste, significantly improving the safe operation and economic benefits of the power station.

Yao Songbai, the person in charge of the construction site of Shanxi Huadian Puxian Pumped Storage Power Station: The Huadian Shanxi Puxian Pumped Storage Power Station project plans to complete the grid connection and power generation of four units by 2030. After completion, it is expected to generate 2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually, save 610000 tons of standard coal annually, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.45 million tons.
The project also innovatively adopts a 493 meter rated head and a 500 rpm high-speed water turbine unit, which can not only reduce the weight of the unit, save factory space, but also greatly improve the efficiency of the unit.
