On July 26, 2024, the Peljesac Bridge in Croatia, constructed by Chinese enterprises, celebrated its second anniversary of opening. In the past two years, about 5 million cars have passed through the bridge, greatly promoting the development of local tourism, transportation, logistics and other industries, bringing tangible benefits to the local people.
Knudsen said that her father worked in the civil engineering industry before his death and proposed to build a bridge over the Small Stone Bay spanning the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia, connecting the country's mainland with the Pele š ac Peninsula. In order to build such a bridge, her father had contacted and negotiated multiple times, but due to difficulties such as high construction difficulty and a large funding gap, he was unable to succeed. When he passed away due to illness, he left a permanent regret for not being able to see the bridge he had hoped for completed.
After growing up, Knudsen inherited his father's business and also became a civil engineer. In July 2018, Knudsen, who was working in Norway, heard news that the first phase of the Pereshats Cross Sea Bridge and its connecting line project, led by a Chinese consortium led by China Road and Bridge Corporation, had started construction. Knudsen made a decisive decision to give up his job in Norway and apply to join the team of the Pele š ac Bridge project.
After joining the bridge project team, Knudsen was responsible for procuring building materials and signing contracts with subcontractors. She said that this work experience was a highlight of her career, and the gains it brought her are 'indescribable in words'. Although I have also participated in some large-scale infrastructure projects in Europe, none of them can be compared to the Pele š ac Bridge project.
Knudsen said that Chinese builders overcame various technical difficulties, overcame challenges such as the COVID-19, and finally ensured the completion of the bridge project on time. Their steadfastness and dedication impressed them deeply. Their performance is excellent and their dedication is admirable. Before the Pelechac Bridge, Komarna and its surrounding areas on the Adriatic Sea were often sparsely populated and lifeless in winter. But after the completion of the bridge, this area is no longer desolate even in winter, bringing new opportunities for the development of tourism and other industries in southern Croatia.
Knudsen said that the Pele š ac Bridge has brought great convenience to people's travel. Nowadays, when traveling to the popular tourist destination of Dubrovnik in Croatia, there is no need to detour through the "Neum Corridor" in Bosnia and Herzegovina, nor to handle cumbersome entry and exit procedures. Keywords: the Belt and Road news, the Belt and Road project, overseas project.
After the completion of the Pele š ac Bridge project, with the construction of the road connection line project in Split, Croatia by Chinese companies starting in February 2024, Knudsen also joined the project and continued to serve as a civil engineer.
