Recently, China's first "Shagehuang" large base transmission channel new energy project - Huadian Tianshan North Foot Gobi Base 6.1 million kilowatt new energy base has officially started construction. The launch of this project marks an important step forward for China's development in the field of new energy, and has profound significance for promoting the clean and low-carbon transformation of China's energy structure and the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development.
The project is located in Barkol County and Yiwu County of Hami City, Xinjiang, with a total area of approximately 990 square kilometers. The installed capacity of the project is as high as 6.1 million kilowatts, including 4.2 million kilowatts of wind power, 1.8 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power, and 100000 kilowatts of solar thermal power. It is also equipped with 1.2 million kilowatts/4.8 million kilowatt hours of electrochemical energy storage devices. The total investment of the project exceeds 29 billion yuan. Relying on coal-fired power projects, it adopts the method of complementary power generation of multiple types of energy such as wind energy, solar energy, thermal power, and solar thermal power. Through the peak shaving and frequency regulation of energy storage technology, it fully utilizes the regulating ability of thermal power and energy storage facilities, greatly improving the stability and reliability of power supply.
'Multi functional complementarity' is a major highlight of this project. Through scientific research and demonstration, the project optimizes the combination of resources with different spatial and temporal distribution characteristics such as wind, light, fire, and storage. Through coordinated layout and flexible adjustment, it realizes the transformation of various power sources from acting independently to dancing together, complementing each other, and assisting each other, thus maximizing their effectiveness and achieving a high proportion of wind and photovoltaic power generation on the grid. This multi energy complementary mode plays a key role in increasing the consumption of new energy in the entire network and improving the safety and stability of the power system.
In addition, the project also emphasizes the organic combination of ecological governance and the development of new energy. During the construction process of the project, advanced technology and equipment will be used to promote collaborative innovation and development of the industrial chain. High quality ecological restoration work will be carried out in desert, Gobi, and desert areas to improve the local ecological and living environment, and achieve the integration and friendly development of new energy and ecology. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to save over 4.8 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 12 million tons annually, with significant energy-saving and emission reduction benefits.
The successful implementation of this project will not only promote the transformation of Xinjiang's resource advantages and efficient development and utilization of clean energy, enhance economic growth momentum, but also provide strong support for Chongqing's economic and social development through the positive and negative 800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission line from Hami to Chongqing, and help promote regional coordinated development. At the same time, this project will also provide a leading demonstration and driving role for China to accelerate the construction of a new type of power system with new energy as the main body, and explore the highly integrated development path of power supply, power grid, load, and energy storage.
As an important area for the development of new energy in China, the "Shage Desert" region is gradually transforming its abundant resources such as wind and solar energy into a tangible new energy oasis. With the advancement of this project and a series of subsequent new energy projects, China's new energy industry will usher in a broader development prospect, contributing important forces to achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
