On September 11, 2024, with the official launch of the first phase of the Bailong Nuclear Power Project in Fangchenggang, Guangxi, it not only marks another important milestone in Guangxi and even China's nuclear power industry, but also indicates that China has taken more solid steps in the field of clean energy. The Bailong Nuclear Power Project is located at the southernmost tip of the Jiangshan Peninsula in the picturesque city of Fangchenggang. Its superior site selection not only demonstrates the country's thoughtful consideration of the development layout of nuclear power, but also reflects the high attention paid to environmental protection and sustainable development.

The project plans to construct 6 million kilowatt nuclear power units with a total installed capacity of 8.62 million kilowatts. Behind this huge number is the country's firm confidence and huge investment in the future development of clean energy. The Bailong Nuclear Power Project, with a total investment of approximately 120 billion yuan, will not only greatly promote the development of the local economy, but also lead China's nuclear power technology to a higher level, contributing to the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system.

The completion and commissioning of two units in the first phase of the project is expected to generate approximately 20 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is equivalent to providing a continuous supply of green power to Guangxi and even the whole country, effectively alleviating the tight energy supply situation. More importantly, the generation of clean electricity can reduce the consumption of standard coal by about 6 million tons per year, which is equivalent to reducing the combustion of a large amount of fossil fuels and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is estimated that about 16 million tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced annually, which is equivalent to planting about 44000 hectares of broad-leaved forests and has immeasurable value in improving air quality and protecting the ecological environment.

The implementation of the Bailong Nuclear Power Project has profound significance for optimizing Guangxi's energy structure and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction. It will effectively promote the transformation and upgrading of Guangxi's energy structure, increase the proportion of clean energy in energy consumption, reduce dependence on traditional fossil fuels, and provide solid energy security for the economic and social development of Guangxi and even the whole country.
