On January 24, 2025, a new direct route for maritime cargo transportation between China and Germany was introduced - the "China Europe Express". The route is operated by Chinese shipping company Jiahua Shipping, and the first cargo ship has successfully arrived at Wilhelmshaven, Germany on the same day.

This cargo ship departed from Ningbo Port and arrived at Wilhelmshaven one day earlier than originally planned after a 25 day voyage. This new direct route will not only greatly accelerate the efficiency of cargo transportation between China and Germany, but also help Wilhelmshaven further expand its logistics network and enhance its competitiveness.

Mark Oliver Hauswald, General Manager of Wilhelmshaven Marketing Company, stated at the inaugural commemorative event that "China Europe Express" is a unique selling point of Wilhelmshaven and the only container port in Northern Europe to offer this direct route. He emphasized that such a short transit time provides valuable opportunities for Wilhelmshaven to further establish a logistics network, including a new railway connection to Budapest, or to load and unload containers at Wilhelmshaven before transferring them to other ports.

Michael Brahe, Chairman of the Management Committee of the terminal operator Euromonitor Group, also expressed optimism about this new route and believes that it will develop into a regular route. He pointed out that the opening of this route will further strengthen Wilhelmshaven's position as an international logistics hub.
