Crossing mountains and seas, heading south. On June 18, 2025, the ± 800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission project from Ningxia to Hunan, jointly constructed by China Electric Power Construction Group Co., Ltd., has entered a critical stage of equipment debugging and is expected to be officially put into operation by the end of June. This project is a key energy project in the national "14th Five Year Plan", with a total length of 1634 kilometers, passing through six provinces including Ningxia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan. It will achieve efficient transmission of electricity from the top of Helan Mountain to the tidal head of Xiangjiang River, becoming an important support for China's "West East Electricity Transmission" strategy.
As China's first wind and solar power transmission ultra-high voltage project built in desert, Gobi, and desert areas, the "Ningdian Xiangxiang" project has a milestone significance. Among them, the Zhongning ± 800 kV converter station constructed by Jiangxi Hydropower Company, a subsidiary of China Electric Power Construction, is the starting station of the project, covering an area of 501.6 acres, equivalent to a large power "transfer station", responsible for gathering abundant clean energy such as wind power and photovoltaics in the northwest region and converting them into high-voltage direct current suitable for long-distance transmission.
After the project is put into operation, it can provide 36 billion to 40 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity to Hunan Province every year, accounting for about one sixth of Hunan's annual electricity consumption. It can not only effectively alleviate the contradiction between power supply and demand in Hunan, but also significantly increase the proportion of clean energy in the central and eastern regions, promoting the optimization and upgrading of energy structure. At the same time, this project is of great significance in promoting the development of new energy resources in Ningxia, accelerating the green transformation of the "Shage Desert" region, and serving the national dual carbon strategy. It marks a crucial step for China in the field of long-distance and high-capacity new energy power transmission.(This article is from the official website of Jian Dao www.seetao.com.
