On June 27, 2025, the first green hydrogen EPC project in Central Asia, the Uzbekistan Tashkent Green Hydrogen Project, which was jointly contracted by China Power Construction East China Institute, officially entered the hydrogen production operation stage, laying a solid foundation for full production.
The Tashkent Green Hydrogen Project in Uzbekistan is the first green hydrogen project independently developed by ACWA Power in the world. It is the first green hydrogen EPC project of Power Construction Group overseas and is also a core part of the Uzbekistan government's "green energy strategy". The project consists of 52MW wind power and 20MW green hydrogen. Among them, 52MW wind power has been put into full capacity in mid-May to generate electricity. The core hydrogen production facility of the project is located in the MAXAM chemical plant in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
It adopts the internationally leading alkaline electrolytic water hydrogen production technology, and is equipped with 4 electrolytic cell systems with a total installed capacity of 20MW. The maximum designed production capacity is 4,000 standard square meters of high-purity hydrogen per hour. After the project is completed, more than 3,000 tons of green hydrogen can be produced each year. Compared with the previous gray hydrogen production model, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 30,000 tons per year, providing a clean and stable new energy solution for the upgrading of the local industrial system.
The project completed a series of startup tests such as system power-on, electrolytic cell upflow, gas separation and purity detection, venting test, emergency shutdown test, etc. The main process system and auxiliary system operated smoothly, and successfully produced 99.99% purity hydrogen. The four electrolytic cells were successfully started in turn and reached the designed full load operation. All systems in the factory worked normally. The achievement of key hydrogen production nodes fully verifies the technical feasibility and operating reliability of the overall hydrogen production system. In the construction of the hydrogen production core process system, the project team integrated the industry's leading electrolytic water hydrogen production technology and optimized it in combination with the local resource characteristics of Uzbekistan to ensure the efficient and stable operation of the system.
Mohamed Abnayan, chairman of the project owner, gave high praise to the project construction. He said: "This project is not only a successful example of ACWA Power's cooperation with China Power Construction, but also an important milestone in the development of the global green hydrogen industry. The project team demonstrated strong professional capabilities and execution under complex conditions, which is a true manifestation of China-Ukraine deepening cooperation in the field of new energy."(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
