The Indonesian government has officially launched the construction project of an integrated electric vehicle battery production facility in Karawan, West Java Province. The project is jointly prepared with China and is valued at up to 5.9 billion US dollars.
This project is seen as a crucial step towards building Indonesia into a major hub for the electric vehicle industry in Southeast Asia. The project will be implemented within the framework of a consortium consisting of Antam State Mining Company, Indonesian Battery Company (IBC), as well as Chinese CATL, Brunp Recycling, and Ningbo Liqin.
Indonesian President Subianto personally presided over the groundbreaking ceremony and proudly stated, "I announce the start of the construction of an integrated industrial ecosystem for electric vehicle battery production, which is the result of the joint efforts of Antam, IBC, and CBL consortium. ”
The production group covers an area of 3000 hectares and is expected to create up to 8000 job opportunities. Within the project framework, there are plans to implement 18 ancillary infrastructure projects, including the construction of a universal seaport. It is expected that the facility will begin commercial operation by the end of 2026. The promotion of this project will not only drive Indonesia's economic development, but also inject new vitality into the electric vehicle industry in Southeast Asia.
