On March 8, 2026, the GuangDong NPP New Energy sodium ion battery production project in Zhoutian Industrial Park, Renhua County, Shaoguan, northern Guangdong, with a total investment of 6.75 billion yuan, officially started construction. This is not only one of the largest new energy storage projects introduced by Shaoguan in recent years, but also marks the official horn of Naipu series, which has been deeply involved in the battery field for 22 years, to enter the new field of sodium batteries. In this billion dollar industrial gamble, can Puneda break through the fierce competition in the energy storage industry with its integrated layout of materials, battery cells, and systems?

According to the plan, this super factory covering an area of 800 acres will be constructed in two phases, with an estimated annual output value of up to 15 billion yuan after reaching full capacity. Unlike simple battery cell assembly projects in the market, NPP has adopted an ambitious vertical integration model: while investing 1.35 billion yuan in the first phase to build a 5GWh sodium battery production line, it also simultaneously supports a production line for 10000 tons of positive electrode materials and 5000 tons of negative electrode materials. This full industry chain layout of upstream material control, midstream battery cell manufacturing, and downstream system development aims to minimize costs and improve self-sufficiency in core links.
On the application side, the project has three high potential scenarios: precise card position energy storage, low-speed transportation, and special fields. Among them, industrial and commercial energy storage and household energy storage are its main focus, aiming to solve the performance degradation pain points of traditional lithium batteries in low-temperature environments; In the field of electric two wheelers and communication backup power, the high safety and low cost advantages of sodium ion batteries will directly impact the maintenance of lead-acid batteries. The Shaoguan Municipal Government has high hopes for this project and regards it as a strong engine to promote the development of the local new energy storage industry cluster.

The accumulation and development of 22 years of technological accumulation in the Naipu series
As the operator of the project, the Naipu team behind Guangdong NPP is not unknown. This well-established power supply enterprise, founded in Guangzhou in 2002, was once renowned both domestically and internationally for its valve regulated lead-acid batteries and lithium battery energy storage products. Its customer list includes giants such as China Mobile, Siemens, IBM, and has five major production bases in Chenzhou, Vietnam, and other places. However, in the face of fluctuations in lithium battery costs and the maturity of sodium battery technology, NPP series chose to reset to zero before starting again.
Choosing sodium batteries is a strategic decision made by NPP based on profound market analysis.
