On July 16, 2025, Morowali Industrial Park in Sulawesi Province, Indonesia welcomed a milestone clean energy project - a 200MW photovoltaic power station with an 80MWh energy storage system. This integrated solar energy project is not only the largest new energy project in Indonesia, but also an important demonstration for promoting local energy transformation. The project is jointly invested by Singapore's Shengke Industrial Group and Indonesia's SESNA company, with China Yongfu Electric Power Design Co., Ltd. as the EPC general contractor responsible for the overall construction. The project includes a 200MWac mountain photovoltaic power station, with an expected annual power generation of 350 million kilowatt hours, equipped with an 80MW/80MWh lithium battery energy storage system, which can effectively stabilize photovoltaic power generation fluctuations and provide stable power supply for the park.
It is worth mentioning that the project is located in Morowali Industrial Park, an important nickel processing base in Indonesia, where energy demand is strong and previously relied mainly on fossil fuel power generation. After the project is put into operation, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 280000 tons per year, significantly increasing the proportion of green energy use in the park.As a landmark project in Indonesia's energy transition, this project perfectly aligns with the country's net zero emissions target of 2060. The recently approved National Electricity Supply Plan (2025-2034) by the Indonesian government clearly proposes to increase the proportion of renewable energy from the current 12% to 35% by 2034, with a target of 17.1GW of photovoltaic power generation installed capacity and planned supporting 3GW energy storage facilities.
Lin Yiwen, Chairman of China Yongfu Electric Power Design Co., Ltd., said, "This is a crucial step for the company to explore the Southeast Asian market and an important practice in participating in the global energy transformation. The project adopts mountain photovoltaic technology and large-scale energy storage solutions, providing valuable experience for the development of new energy in complex terrain areas in IndonesiaPrior to this, the largest solar energy storage project in Indonesia was a 50 MW photovoltaic supporting 14.2 MWh energy storage project located in the Nusantara region of the new capital, developed by the Indonesian State Power Company. The scale and technological level of the Morowali project have achieved significant breakthroughs, indicating that Indonesia's new energy construction has entered an accelerated period.
Analysts pointed out that with the deepening of the the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese enterprises have increasingly highlighted their competitive advantages in the field of overseas new energy EPC. The successful implementation of this project not only demonstrates the comprehensive strength of Chinese enterprises in the field of photovoltaics and energy storage, but also provides a replicable business model for future new energy cooperation in Southeast Asia. At present, the project team is overcoming challenges such as mountainous construction and steadily advancing the construction of the project. It is expected that after the project is put into operation, it will become one of the most representative solar energy storage demonstration projects in Southeast Asia, injecting new momentum into the development of regional green energy.
