On July 30, 2025, the Belgrade Ring Road Project in Serbia, undertaken by the Fifth Bureau of Hydropower of China, officially obtained the performance certificate issued by the owner, marking the high-quality and successful completion of this key project of the Belt and Road jointly built by China and Serbia. As the first project of PowerChina to enter the Serbian market, the project not only completed the construction task with excellent results of "zero accidents and 100% pass rate", but also became an important link to promote regional connectivity and deepen the friendship between China and Serbia.

Traffic arteries help regional connectivity

As an important part of the Pan-European Highway 10 corridor, the Belgrade Ring Road has a total length of 20.34 kilometers, a design speed of 120 kilometers per hour, and a bridge-tunnel ratio of 40%, including 4 tunnels, 22 bridges and 3 interchanges. After the completion of the project, it will effectively divert 30% of the traffic flow of the E75 main road, significantly alleviate the traffic pressure in Belgrade's urban area, make the connection between Serbia and Europe more efficient, and provide important support for the country's integration into regional economic development.

Overcoming difficulties demonstrates China's construction strength

In the face of challenges such as the complex geology of the Slovica shallow tunnel in the S5 section, the project team innovatively adopted a two-way 24-hour tunneling process and finally achieved penetration 225 days ahead of schedule. In view of the landslide danger in the entrance area of the S6 bid section, by optimizing the design scheme and promoting rapid approval, valuable time was won for the project to be promoted. During the construction period, the project team has been awarded a number of advanced honors for safety production by establishing a full-cycle quality control system and maintaining a record of "zero accidents" in safety production.

Green co-construction writes a new chapter in China-Serbia friendship

The project construction adheres to the concept of environmental protection, retains 87% of the original greening and implements ecological replanting, and supports the construction of convenient facilities such as basketball courts and football fields. The project has created more than 1,000 local jobs and promoted exchanges between Chinese and Serbian employees through cultural activities such as "making rice dumplings" and "Hanfu experience". Serbian President Vucic attended the opening ceremony of the three bid sections and spoke highly of the project construction results.
