On August 11, 2025, China Electric Power Construction (601669. SH) announced that its subsidiary, China Hydropower Construction Group International Engineering Co., Ltd., and South African Entsika Company signed a contract with the South African Cross Caledon Tunnel Authority for the Phase 2 expansion project of the Mokolo Crocodile River (West) water supply in South Africa, with a contract amount of approximately 6.994 billion yuan.

The project is located in Limpopo Province in northern South Africa, starting near Tabazinbi and ending at Lepalale. The main project content is a large-scale water diversion project, including water retaining weirs, water intake structures, pump stations, water supply pipelines, etc. The designed annual water delivery capacity is 75 million cubic meters, and the total length of the water supply pipeline is about 142 kilometers. The project construction period is about 48 months.
The main purpose of this project construction is to meet the water needs of the Waterberg coalfield development in the Lepalale area of Limpopo Province, South Africa. After completion, it can also meet the water needs of enterprises such as Medupi Power Station, Eskom, Sasol, Exxaro, etc. At the same time, it can provide stable water sources for local urban and rural residents, improve water safety, and to some extent alleviate the water pressure caused by local industrial expansion.
After the completion of the project, it will realize the transportation of raw water from Crocodile River (West) to the Stinbokpan and Lepalale regions, serving the Matimba and Medupi power plants and future industrial development, helping to enhance the capacity of South Africa's national water supply system and ensure energy security, while providing solid support for regional industrial development and urban water supply.
