The Kaleta hydropower station, constructed by China Communications Construction Group Co., Ltd. and China Water Resources and Electric Power International Co., Ltd., has been operating stably for ten years on the Kongure River in Dubeira Province, Republic of Guinea. This project, printed on a 20000 Guinean franc banknote, witnesses the deep cooperation between China and several countries in the field of energy.
In August 2015, the Kaileta hydropower station with a total installed capacity of 240000 kilowatts was fully put into operation, with an average annual power generation of 1.125 billion kilowatt hours, filling nearly half of the electricity gap in the Republic of Guinea. The transmission network built to support the project will deliver electricity to 11 provinces and regions, providing remote areas with stable electricity for the first time.
The Republic of Guinea has long relied on fuel power generation, and the capital city of Conakry is often shrouded in diesel generator noise at night. Our community used to experience power outages every day, sometimes lasting for several hours, "recalled Hassan Bangula, a local translator involved in the project construction. The operation of the Kaileta hydropower station has significantly increased the proportion of clean energy in the country.
In 2021, the Subaiti hydropower station, also constructed by China Water Resources and Electric Power Corporation, was connected to the grid for power generation. The total installed capacity of the two power stations reaches 690000 kilowatts, contributing more than 80% of the electricity generation in the Republic of Guinea, helping the country transform from a power shortage country to an electricity exporting country, exporting electricity to six neighboring countries including the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of Gambia.

During the project construction period, the Chinese team focused on technology transfer and talent cultivation. During the peak construction period, more than 1500 local job opportunities were created, and nearly a hundred Guinean students went to China or entered local universities to study. Nowadays, these students have become the backbone of the country's power system.
The mentorship of Chinese engineers has enabled us to master the ability to survive and thrive, "said Banggula. At present, the local team is able to independently handle daily faults and participate in power station scheduling and maintenance. Chen Qiuhan, Director of the Market Development Department of China Water Resources and Electric Power International Co., Ltd. Guinea Limited Liability Company, introduced that the training mechanism established in the project has been extended to other projects.
In addition to technical cooperation, the project also actively carries out livelihood assistance. Donate materials to benefit 20000 residents in the surrounding area, and regularly hold enterprise open day activities. Banggula shared, "Chinese builders respect our culture and help us like friends
Under the night sky, the lights of the Kaileta hydropower station illuminate the valley. Local children are able to learn under electric lights, factory machines continue to operate, and neighboring cities are revitalized by cross-border power supply. The currency with the design of the hydropower station has become an eternal witness to the friendship between China and Guinea.
China Water Resources and Electric Power International Co., Ltd. stated that it will continue to deepen cooperation with the Republic of Guinea in the field of electricity, support the country's mining development plan, and promote sustainable economic and social development. This' monetary hydropower station 'is telling a touching story of China Africa cooperation and win-win in its unique way.
