On August 25th, China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and Chile officially signed the contract for the Batuco Railway project in the city of Renca in the Santiago Capital Region. The project is located in the northern part of the Chilean capital region, with a total length of 24 kilometers. It includes the construction of a new passenger dedicated line from Jintanomar to Batuco, 6 stations and 6 railway bridges, as well as the repair and renovation of existing freight lines, all of which will use Chinese made electric multiple units.
The Batuco Railway is an important component of the Chilean government's "30/30" suburban railway plan, aimed at achieving the goal of allowing the public to reach a 30 kilometer radius within 30 minutes. Chilean Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Juan Carlos Munoz stated that the line will connect multiple subway lines in the capital in the future, providing safer, more efficient, and timely public transportation services for residents in the north.

Eric Martin, President of the Chilean National Railway Company, pointed out that the project will help narrow the regional development gap, promote sustainable transportation development, and highly recognize the railway construction experience of Chinese enterprises.
The project is planned to start construction by the end of 2024 and achieve section opening in 2028. After completion, it will serve 5 cities in the capital region and achieve transfer connections with subway lines 3, 5, and 7.
